Triple
'A' Flying and HarvsAir are pleased to announce
their
"JAA Training partnership Programme "
The Partnership
between Triple “A” Flying and Harvsair
has been formed in order to facilitate training to obtain a JAA "Frozen" ATPL. The Programme has been
designed to obtain the best of both worlds by maintaining the highest
of professional standards but at the same time significantly reducing
costs. An “ab initio” pilot, (ie. a would be pilot with zero flying
experience), by gaining a Canadian (ICAO) PPL(A), CPL(A),
Multi Rating and IR(A) en
route to a JAA “Frozen” ATPL, can realistically achieve cost savings of up
to £10,000 (Sterling) compared to the equivalent costs of doing all
JAA training in the UK. There is also the added bonus that in this part
of Canada there are over 300 VFR flying days per year.
The UK/Canada
Training Programme is eminently suited for the “ab initio” to “Frozen “
ATPL student or for those already holding a PPL(A) and just wishing to build up
hours and/or train to obtain the ICAO (Canada) CPL(A), Multi Rating and IR(A) with a view to
reducing the minimum hours requirements on the equivalent JAA Modular Courses. Accordingly a programme can be specifically
tailored to suit
the individual, the outlines/costings of which are itemised in the tables
below.
For the JAA
ATPL (A) Groundschool we have a working relationship with Bristol Ground School
UK (www.bristol.gs) for 'distance learning' which we can directly arrange. The
“distance learning” could perhaps be undertaken in Canada when also doing
the flying although some formal “brush up” time is required to be done at
the School in the UK. For a full time Groundschool Course then we can recommend
certain institutions on request. The JAA ATPL Ground Exams must be taken in the
UK.
What
makes this Programme so special?
Apart from
cost, one of the main
reasons for creating the Partnership Programme stems from the fact that it is becoming
increasingly apparent that students attending for JAA Modular Flight
Training often exhibit very
mediocre flying skills/standards, often compounded by a lack of basic (flying)
background knowledge. This particularly applies where basic flying training or
hours building, (often done aimlessly), has been undertaken abroad, usually in
the USA. Even when students have achieved some or all of the ICAO equivalents of
the JAA CPL(A), MEP Class Rating and the IR(A) in order to try and take
full advantage of JAA Abridged
Training, standards have often still been found wanting.
Flying abroad
is perfectly understandable with the very substantial attraction of reduced
costs, being on average around 50% lower than in the UK. In other respects
however standardisation varies considerably and disciplines and standards
are often markedly different from those in the UK and other JAA States.
Inevitably this leads to significant hours/cost overruns, not to mention mental
frustration, when undertaking the JAA Modular Flying Courses. This situation
usually arises not because of an inherent incapability of the student but rather
due to inadequate information being ascertained, at the early stages of the
decision making process to become a professional pilot, as to the precise nature
of the JAA Flight Training requirements and standards.
There has been concern in the UK commercial flight training industry regarding standards that
some well known schools have been forced to set up a totally separate Pre–JAA
CPL(A) Preparation Course of ten or twenty hours flying, as appropriate.
Our programme deals with this situation by being pro-active from the outset of
training by the provision of detailed information on required background
knowledge and of JAA requirements combined with a co-ordinated structured flying
programme and a marked upfront emphasis on the correct “mental approach” to the
tasks that a professional pilot has to cope with. The “mental
approach” is just as crucial as technical flying knowledge and yet is
invariably neglected in most schools, or at best is only mentioned in passing.
Triple “A”
Flying (established in 1983) and Harvsair (established in 1972), with their
joint experience and dedicated career instructors, have the expertise to
provide the level of training necessary to produce, cost effectively, a
highly professional pilot, subject to the student possessing the right sort of
attitude and willing to work hard to achieve their overall goal. During training it is essential to acquire
skills not just to pass the various Skill Tests but also to cater for the future
- for instance so as to be able to perform better than the competition on a
simulator check ride for that all important first airline job and achieve
an airline command at the earliest opportunity. In this regard proof that our
approach to training has been practically effective has been confirmed many
times over the years and, in particular, with our liason with Eastern Airways
who are based here at Humberside Airport. Details of the most recent ex-student
placements can be found in the
NEWS Section on our Website.
Flying training
and/or building up hours in Canada will permit a cost effective “structured
programme” to be simultaneously followed in preparation for the JAA CPL(A), MEP
Class Rating and IR(A) Modular Flying Courses, as required. In turn this will
markedly reduce the "culture shock" for the student on their return to
the UK, directly resulting in less expenditure and mental strain.
N.B. Before
commencing any ground/flying training towards a Professional Pilot qualification
it is essential, at a practical level and certainly before expending any large
sums of money, to have obtained a JAA Class 1 Medical in addition to any
Canadian medical requirements.
Question:
Do I need a student visa or special permissions, etc. to train in Canada?
Answer:
Depends. Not if you are from Europe and any Courses last less than 6
months in total. However as the whole Programme Course in Canada will last for a
minimum of 6 months then it would be prudent to obtain a Student Visa in
advance. (See Harvsair Website for more details)

N.B.1
All prices include UK/Canada taxes. The above figures are based on the
Exchange Rate £1 = $2.09 Canadian
dollars. Any variation in the Exchange Rate will cause Prices to fluctuate
accordingly. Prices may also change without notice to reflect fuel price changes
etc.
N.B.2 These prices are based on the
legal minimum time for each course. Some students will
require more than the minimum to
complete the Courses.
N.B.3
These prices do not take account of any food or the cost of accommodation
when undertaking the flying training in the UK. If the ATPL Ground School
is undertaken on a full time basis rather than by “distance learning” then this
will add significantly to cost, around £2000 excluding the accommodation
element.
N.B.4 The JAA Familiarisation Training (Commercial) – (£1323) and the JAA Familiarisation Training (Instrument ) – (£1597), are optional and would reduce total hours by 25 if not done. However the cost saved may have to be offset by having to build up hours to total 200 to enable issue of the Canadian CPL.
