1.  THE AIM OF THE COURSE

To impart the skills necessary to teach a student for the purposes of gaining a PPL(A) (and NPPL).

2.  DURATION OF THE COURSE

Assuming a full time attendance (five days a week) by students at Triple 'A' Flying, the expected duration of the Course, barring delays due to weather etc, is 4 to 6 weeks.

3.  PRE-ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Before being permitted to begin an approved course of training for a FI(A) rating an applicant shall have:

3.1  Completed at least 200 hours of flight time of which at least 100 hours shall be as pilot in command if holding an ATPL (A) or CPL (A) or 150 hours as pilot in command if holding a PPL (A).

3.2  Met the knowledge requirements for a CPL(A) as set out in AMC FCL 1.470(b).

3.3  Completed as least 30 hours on single engine piston powered aeroplanes of which at least five hours shall have been completed during the six months preceding the pre-entry flight test.

3.4  Received at least 10 hours instrument flight instruction of which not more than five hours may be instrument ground time in a flight procedures trainer or flight simulator.

3.5  Completed at least 20 hours of cross country flight as pilot in command, including a flight totaling not less than 540km (300nm) in the course of which full stop landings at two different aerodromes shall be made:

3.6   Passed a specific pre-entry flight test with an FI qualified as in JAA-FCL 1.330(f) based upon the proficiency check as set out in Appendix 3 to 1.240 within the six months preceding the start of the course.  The flight test will assess the ability of the applicant to undertake the course.

4  FI(A) COURSE  REF: AMC FCL 1.340

4.1  An applicant for the FI(A) rating shall have completed an approved course of theoretical knowledge instruction and flight training at an approved flying training organisation (see AMC FCL 1.340).

4.2  The flight instruction shall  comprise at least 30hours of flight training, of which 25 hours shall be dual flight instruction. The remaining five hours may be mutual flying (that is, two applicants flying together to practice flight demonstrations). Of the 25 hours, five hours may be conducted in a flight simulator or FNPT II approved for the purpose by the Authority. The skill test is additional to the course training time.

4.3  The ground instruction shall comprise 125 hours in total of which a suggested breakdown is 40 hours tuition, 78 hours practice in class and 7 hours of progress tests.
